We've been travelling light all trip, and by the time we arrived in Florence we were travelling even lighter. Somewhere in between Milan and Florence somebody took Mum's suitcase out of the luggage rack on the train. So literally all she had were the clothes on her back. However, it could be worse: she didn't lose any cash, valuables, passports etc. and I have a copy of all the tickets, hotel bookings, and the itinerary (which I will now guard with my life!). It's really annoying though - why can't people leave things alone that aren't theirs?! About the only thing that's not easily replaced is her medication, but we're in the process of getting a new prescription from the doctor back home.
So, on with the show!
We had a wander around Florence after sorting everything out (filing a police report, finding the hotel, buying some new clothes, doing my laundry). It was really crowded, I'm not sure if this is usual for a Sunday or if there's a holiday on or something. Anyway we found our way, by a sort of engineered accident (i.e. figure out the approximate direction and start walking), to the Mercato Centrale (central market), Cappelle Medicee, the Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore, the Piazza della Signoria, Palazzo Vecchio and Galleria degli Uffizi (art/sculpture galleries), and the Ponte Vecchio.
